Children in State Care and Children on the APY Lands Commission of Inquiry

The Commission is inquiring into allegations of sexual abuse of children who were in State care. It is also inquiring into allegations of criminal misconduct that resulted in the death of any children in State care.

The Commission's purpose is to examine and report on whether there was a failure on the part of State to appropriately deal with matters that gave rise to the allegations of sexual abuse or the death of a child under the care, control, custody or guardianship of the relevant Minister. The Inquiry will also determine and report on whether appropriate and adequate records were maintained.

The Children on the APY Lands Inquiry will examine allegations sexual abuse of children on the APY Lands, assess and report on the nature and extent of sexual abuse, identify and report the consequences of sexual abuse on the APY Lands and report on any measures that should be implemented to prevent sexual abuse of children on the APY Lands.
