The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs
The mission of the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) is to regulate the trading environment so that consumers can be confident that they will be treated fairly when buying goods or services.
The functions of OCBA are to:
- Provide advice and assistance in resolution of disputes concerning consumers and traders, and in tenancy matters.
- Inform consumers and traders about their rights and responsibilities.
- Educate the public about issues, products and events that may be of concern to them as consumers or traders.
- Regulate the trading environment and licensing of various occupations and businesses.
- Maintain civil registers of births, deaths and marriages.
- Provide civil marriage facilities and celebrant services.
- Monitor the marketplace for compliance with SA consumer laws in order to give effective policy advice to Government.
The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) provides services to the public through its various branches:
- Consumer Affairs including trade measurement and product safety.
- Tenancies including residential, retail and bonds, as well as support to the Residential Tenancies Tribunal.
- Births, Deaths and Marriages.
- Business and Occupations Services including business names, associations and cooperatives, licensing.
