Volunteering
Volunteering is a vital part of the South Australian way of life with more than 600,000 South Australians involved in volunteering.
Volunteers play a major role in all aspects of everyday life. They are running sporting clubs and associations, raising funds for worthy causes, providing respite for families with disabled children, caring for the environment, and helping out in hospitals and schools. Without the selfless dedication of so many volunteers, so much of what we take for granted would simply not exist.
The State Government is committed to supporting and developing our volunteer sector and recognises the vital role the sector plays in achieving the many social and community building aspects of South Australia's Strategic Plan.
In September 2007, a study of SA Government departments by the Office for Volunteers revealed that there’s currently more than 130 government volunteer programs with over 257,000 volunteers.
