Careers in the Attorney-General's Department

Many opportunities exist for a South Australian Public Sector career within the justice and emergency services sector. The Attorney-General's Department is large and unique in the range and legal diversity of agencies in which you may work. Because the range of justice and emergency services provided is so broad, our customers come from all backgrounds and have varying needs. Therefore, a diverse group of employees is needed, representing all backgrounds and at all levels, to design and provide our services in ways which meet the needs of all customers.

The Attorney-General's Department can offer a range of work experience, volunteering, and job opportunities to people from a vast array of backgrounds, experiences, and educational levels.

There are opportunities to work directly with a wide range of people, or to undertake support roles in administration, research, project management, or policy development. Full-time or part-time opportunities exist for ongoing, temporary, contract or casual vacancies, with a variety of employment conditions and flexible working arrangements, depending on the job and the agency you work in.

The Government of South Australia (including the Attorney-General's Department) is an equal opportunity employer, meaning that it provides equal opportunity for all existing and potential employees, regardless of their age, gender, race, marital status, sexuality, pregnancy, physical or intellectual impairment, or family or carer responsibilities. Equal employment opportunity affords people the right to be considered for a job, for which they are skilled and/or qualified.

The principle of recruitment and promotion on merit is fundamental to the South Australian Public Sector. The Attorney-General's Department cannot guarantee you a job, but it can guarantee you fair opportunity to win a job, should you apply. Fair selection processes ensure that we recruit or promote the right person for the job, from the widest possible pool of suitably skilled applicants.

Most vacancies within the Attorney-General's Department are not open to the general public. However, you may be able to apply to gain entry into the department through the recruitment programs detailed in the Support Programs section. In addition, from time to time, vacancies in Attorney-General's Department business units are advertised in daily Australian newspapers inviting application from outside the public sector, and in the Notice of Vacancies (www.vacancies.sa.gov.au), the online government vacancy publication.
