Statutes Amendment (Director's Liability) Bill 2012

28/11/2012:  Attorney General John Rau will today introduce the Bill. The purpose of this Bill is to give effect to that part of the National Partnership Agreement to Deliver a Seamless National Economy entered into through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in November 2008 in which the Commonwealth and all States and Territories agreed to reform directors’ liability provisions in their legislation. These are provisions that impose personal criminal liability on directors of corporations by reason of the position they hold in a corporation that has committed an offence. These reforms will extend to members of management committees of other bodies corporate.

Legal change to prevent hardship to motorists

10/07/2012: Legislation will be introduced to State Parliament this week to prevent a repeat of the inconvenience and, in some cases, hardship suffered by motorists as a result of administrative delays in the issuing of licence disqualification notices.

New laws to prevent misleading auction prices

01/07/2012: Consumers will no longer be misled by unrealistically low advertised starting prices for homes to be auctioned, under proposed legislation released by the State Government today.

Minister for Business Services and Consumers John Rau today released a draft Bill to reform the real estate industry, including greater consumer protection and less red tape for agents.

The draft Bill is intended to deliver increased protection for legal consumers and more effective sanctions against practitioners who act improperly.

Attorney-General John Rau has introduced new laws to ensure firearm offenders face serious jail time.

The Statutes Amendment (Serious Firearm Offences) Bill 2012 creates new provisions to combat firearm-related violence and disarm dangerous criminals, putting them behind bars.

The Bill also closes a legal gap that previously allowed offenders firing on an empty property to avoid a more serious penalty.
