Births, Deaths and Marriages

The Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office is part of the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs.

The office is responsible for maintaining registers of births, deaths, marriages, changes of name, adoption of children and reassignments of sex that occur in South Australia. Registration is a legal requirement.

The office also issues certificates. The following certificates are available:

  • Birth certificates.
  • Commemorative birth certificates.
  • Death certificates.
  • Marriage certificates.
  • Commemorative marriage certificates.
  • Non-marriage certificates (single status).
  • Change of name certificates.

There are various other services provided by the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office, including the conduct of civil marriage ceremonies. These take place in the Marriage Room of the Registration Office where there is seating for up to 30 guests.
