Business Advice

The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) has important information on rights and responsibilities for businesses and advice about how to keep up-to-date with the laws that govern day-to-day business activities.

Topics include:

  • Business relations and customer service.
  • E-commerce.
  • Business names registration.
  • Selling practices, advertising, refunds, warranties, lay-bys.
  • Handling complaints.

OCBA also provides information about incorporated associations including how to incorporate, the advantages and processes, and the rules and legislation involved.

OCBA is also responsible for administering the South Australian Co-operatives Act 1997, with functions that include:

  • Exercising various discretions under the Act such as exemptions, registrations and approvals.
  • Maintaining a register of co-operatives and the public file which includes the registered rules.
  • Provision of search facilities for people wishing to search and/or obtain copies of documents on the public file.
