Multicultural Community Support

Multicultural SA is the agency responsible for advising the Government on all matters relating to multicultural and ethnic affairs in South Australia. It includes the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission (SAMEAC).

Multicultural SA is responsible for ensuring that people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds receive equitable access to state government services. Multicultural SA also coordinates a Volunteer Migrant Information Officer Network of bilingual, multilingual or bicultural volunteers who provide a free, direct information and referral service on government and other services to their respective communities.

An important priority for Multicultural SA is to respond to issues raised by culturally and linguistically diverse women in South Australia. A women's leadership program has been developed to facilitate training to be effective leaders and role models for other women in the community. Although the courses are open to women from all communities, smaller and emerging communities have been targeted in the first instance.

Grants Schemes

The Multicultural Grants Scheme aims to:

  • Increase understanding of the culturally diverse community we live in.
  • Improve equality and tolerance in our community.
  • Increase participation by South Australians of all backgrounds in the community.
  • Celebrate and value cultural diversity.

Initiatives that respond to the needs and circumstances of culturally and linguistically diverse young people and people living in rural and regional communities are encouraged.

The Land Tax Relief Grant Scheme is a South Australian Government initiative to assist ethnic community organisations to pay their land tax. This allows them to maintain and build on the community services they provide to their members and to the general community.
