Defined loosely, a Justice of the Peace (JP) is appointed by the Attorney-General to act as an independent and objective witness to documents people use for official or legal purposes.

Justice of the Peace Services delivers a range of services to the South Australian community, including managing the application, appointment, conduct and removal of JPs, as well as maintaining the South Australian Justice of the Peace Roll - a database containing contact information for JPs available around the state.
  • answer queries about the apPointment of JPs and how to become a JP
  • assist members of the public to find a JP
  • provide verification of JPs
  • provide support to JPs carrying out the functions of their office
  • handle complaints against JPs.
Justice of the Peace Services staff are available to:
