Financial performance at a glance

The department recorded a net cost of services of $117.8 million in 2018-19, compared with a revised budgeted net cost of $122.4 million.

The favourable result includes unspFianent funding which will be carried over into 2019-20 and salary savings in 2018-19.

The decrease in expenses and income from operating activities in 2018-19 compared to 2017-18 is mainly attributable to machinery of government changes, with the SAET and Safework SA transferring from the Department in 2018-19.

Total expenses were $221.3 million in 2018‑19. A summary of expenses by category is shown in the figure below.

Total operating income for 2018‑19, including appropriation, was $207.8 million. Revenue from state government appropriations accounted for around 50% of total income.  A summary of income by source is shown in the figure below.
