South Australians now have access to a digital planning system that provides quicker and easier public notification processes and access to information about development applications across the state.

Executive Director of Planning and Land Use Services Sally Smith said PlanSA, South Australia's online planning system, has been significantly enhanced to increase the user experience when interacting with the public notification process.

The new Public Notification process within the PlanSA system will improve usability for councils to centralise information, while simplifying access for members of the public to help them understand what development is happening in their neighbourhood.

This end-to-end solution was developed in response to feedback from PlanSA users, in collaboration with key stakeholders as part of an ongoing commitment to refine the planning systems functions, features and usability.

"Public notification is an important part of the new planning system. Through this upgrade, users of the PlanSA system can easily find applications on notification and submit feedback on them - these enhancements further ensure consistency in the process, regardless of council area, and enables a digital by default interaction," she said.

"In addition, by using QR codes, members of the public can easily access plans and other information about any given development simply and easily online."

Local Government Association Acting Chief Executive Lisa Teburea said the LGA and councils had been working closely with the Government to identify improvements and enhancements around the public notification process.

"We are pleased that the Department has heard and understood our concerns and worked with council planning staff to develop a practical solution," Ms Teburea said.

"The LGA will continue to work collaboratively with its members and the Government on further enhancements to the system that will benefit all users."

The new system is now available to councils for any upcoming applications requiring public notification.
