This data outlines the number of prisoners on remand or serving a sentence in our correctional services system.

Key points

On 1 June 2016, there were 2996 adults in custody in South Australia. This included:

  • 1754 serving a sentence
  • 1242 people who were on remand.

Of those serving a sentence:

  • just over three quarters (76%) had an expected minimum time to serve of 12 months or more
  • less than 4% were serving an expected minimum sentence of less than three months.
