South Australian government agencies use the Crown Solicitor's Office (CSO) for their legal advice.
In some circumstances, public authorities can use private legal practitioner but must seek the advice of the Crown Solicitor first. See Private law firms and practitioners for more information.

Using CSO services
Public authorities should contact the CSO as early as possible to seek advice on legal issues.
The CSO also charges government agencies for the legal services provided.

Serving documents
Documents can be served on the Crown Solicitor in the following ways.
All documents attached to the email must be PDF or Microsoft Word and have a maximum file size of 10MB.
For the purposes of Rule R42.2(1)(b)(iii) the Crown Solicitor will accept service by email at the above address of any document served pursuant to the Uniform Civil Rules 2020.

Report to the ground floor concierge desk and the Crown Solicitor's Office will be contacted to receive your documents.
This is in line with the Crown Proceedings Act 1992 and Chapter 5 of the Uniform Civil Rules 2020.
Secure encryption for shared files
The CSO uses Kiteworks - a secure data encryption system - to transfer sensitive information outside of the department.
