Changes to registration of births

23 September 2016

Changes to the way births are registered in South Australia are expected to make it easier for couples who use fertilisation procedures to conceive, to register as the parents of a newborn.

The changes are expected to aid both lesbian and heterosexual couples, by removing a provision that meant a partner or co-parent could only register if they had been in a relationship with the child’s mother for either three consecutive years, or a total of three out of four years.
