Blood testing offenders who attack police

3 July 2014

The State Government is keeping its election promise and giving police the power to compel any offender who assaults a police officer to undertake a blood test for infectious diseases.

Attorney-General John Rau has introduced a Bill to Parliament which will mean suspected offenders who assault an officer, potentially exposing them to contaminated bodily fluid and a risk of contracting an infectious disease, can be compelled to be blood tested.
