Davenport Community Council Incorporated receives grant for $100,000

The Davenport Community Council Incorporated will receive $100,000 in funding as part of the 2017 Crime Prevention and Community Safety Grants Program.

The Growing Strong project will deliver a mentoring program in conjunction with elders for Aboriginal youth living in the Port Augusta region.

The Growing Strong project will assist Aboriginal youth who are at risk of incarceration, or already engaged with the justice system make better decisions and life choices.

More than $700,000 in funding to projects across South Australia has been awarded in this round of grants.

Background

Grants of up to $100,000 were available to programs that seek to prevent crime and reduce youth offending, with a focus on ‘place-based’ and ‘family-based’ initiatives to meet outcomes and align with government priorities in South Australia.

Under the program, once-off grants are available for any single project of up to 12 months duration.

Last year, the maximum available grant increased from $50,000 to $100,000.

A multi-agency panel assessed each application, with a focus on projects that can deliver positive results for crime reduction in the community.
