South Australians will be given a further opportunity to provide feedback on the State's new Planning and Design Code next month when the State Planning Commission provides an additional six week period to comment on the revised draft Code.
This opportunity follows an initial five-month period of public consultation on the draft Code from October 2019 to February 2020, which resulted in over 2000 written submissions.
Michael Lennon, Chair of the State Planning Commission, said "we have received constructive and substantial feedback from the South Australian community on the State's new planning system."
"In response, we have made significant improvements to the Code including the addition of several new overlays and zones to better reflect local conditions and address areas of community concern.
"This additional period of public consultation will give community, industry and local government the chance to see how their feedback has been incorporated and consider any further submissions before the Code is submitted to the Minister for consideration," he said.
Already operational in outback and rural areas of South Australia, the Code is due to be implemented in metropolitan areas and large regional towns next year, with the aim of making SA's planning system easier, quicker and simpler for all.
The State Planning Commission urges South Australians to take up the opportunity to review the revised Planning and Design Code and have their say when public consultation opens in early November.
Following the close of consultation, the Commission will consider submissions and make a recommendation to the Minister to implement the State's new planning system in metropolitan areas and large regional cities in the first quarter of 2021.
The revised draft Code will be made available in the ePlanning platform, providing everyone with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the planning policies for their area and to experience how the new planning system will operate once implemented.
