Background
The National Redress Scheme provides support and acknowledgement to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse across Australia and holds institutions accountable for the abuse.
The Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. See the National Redress Scheme website for more information, including eligibility requirements.
The South Australian Government joined the National Redress Scheme in February 2019 and is committed to its successful operation, which includes full participation of all institutions that have been named in applications.
Institutions that can join but have chosen not to join or have not responded to the Scheme’s request to join, face public naming by the Scheme and other financial consequences from the Commonwealth.
