The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is a statutory officer and independent of the Attorney-General's Department.

The office initiates and conducts:

  • criminal prosecutions in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of South Australia
  • appeals in the Full Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia.

The DPP can also restrain and confiscate assets used in or derived from criminal activity.
