In the South Australian public sector, personal information is protected by the 'Information Privacy Principles', which establish how personal information must be managed. These principles can be found in the Premier and Cabinet Circular 12 – Information Privacy Principles Instruction.

‘Personal information’ is any information about a person where someone's identity can be identified from that information, and includes things such as name, address, date of birth, financial or health status, alleged behaviours and licensing details.

It may also include photographs or video footage.
