State Records supports the Privacy Committee of South Australia in the administration of the state government’s privacy regime.
In the South Australian public sector, personal information is protected by the 'Information Privacy Principles', which establish how personal information must be managed. These principles can be found in the Premier and Cabinet Circular 12 – Information Privacy Principles Instruction.
‘Personal information’ is any information about a person where a person’s identity is apparent or can be ascertained from that information, and includes things such as name, address, date of birth, financial or health status, alleged behaviours and licensing details. It may also include photographs or video footage.
A range of South Australian and federal laws protect various elements of privacy.
You can find more information about your personal information privacy rights and the law at the State Records of South Australia website.
Information about individuals' rights in respect to Federal Government agencies or private sector organisations, including doctors and other private health professionals can be obtained from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
